Sunscreen…

Please consider applying sunscreen to your child in the morning before school. The Skin Cancer Society recommends an SPF of at least 15 for children. Just one blistering sunburn in childhood more than doubles a person's chances of developing melanoma later in life.

According to the Dermatology Society, a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 filters 92% of the UVB. Put another way, a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 will delay the onset of a sunburn in a person who would otherwise burn in 10 minutes to burn in 150 minutes. The SPF 15 sunscreen allows a person to stay out in the sun 15 times longer.

EOG TESTING

The 5th grade Science EOG is scheduled for June 6th. ELA & Math testing for 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade is scheduled for May 31st & June 1st. Testing will begin promptly at 8:45. Students should make sure to have a good breakfast and get plenty of rest prior to testing. Students should make an extra effort to be at school on time. Any testing questions should be directed to Administration

Sometimes students become anxious before taking a test.  Here are some suggestions that may help your child:

Ø  Talk positively about the opportunity for your child to do well.

Ø  Make sure your child starts his/her day with a positive attitude.

Ø  Encourage your child to listen carefully to what the teacher has to say while he/she is administering the test.

Ø  Help your child reduce his/her morning stress by packing his/her book bag the night before the test and by having his/her clothes ready for testing day.

8 Ways to Be A Test-Taking Star

1.        Get plenty of sleep the night before the test.

2.        Eat a healthy breakfast and wear clothes that are comfortable.

3.        Pay close attention to test directions.

4.        Answer the easy questions first.

5.        Read every answer before you choose one.

6.        If you’re not sure of the answer, rule out the choices that you know are wrong.  Then pick the best answer that’s left.

7.        If you have time, check over your answers before you turn in the test. If you start to feel stressed, take some deep breaths to relax.
